Study in Bolivia: an Introduction

Pursuing higher education in Bolivia is not a surprising matter now a days. For, the standard of education, accommodation, availability of courses have made Bolivian institutions ideal centers for learning for local as well as overseas students. Day by day, the number of universities is rising rapidly. They learn, they earn and they build their careers home and abroad. The standard of teaching and the standard of learning run in parallel in a very exquisite way. The Professors are amiable, learned, competent and above all, highly encouraging. Their approach to the overseas students is so praiseworthy. In a class a student cannot but find the homely environment among his fellow students. In the friendly classes the students gather knowledge with the careful supervision of the efficient Professors. Thus a friendly environment always prevails in the classes of Bolivian Institutions.

Regarding the tution cost, Bolivian institutions may be the lowest of other South American countries. The cost depends from course to course, from university to university. In an average, a student has to pay USD 1000 for a six month term including tution fee, exam fee, lab fee, etc.. In the medical university, it is a bit higher. In colleges, it is much lower. Besides, a student may pay the fees in installment. Accommodation facility is available on campus in most of the universities. Thus the students may reside in a serene place. In the hostel, both local and foreign foods are available. The campuses are located in a good location so that the students find the places perfect places for communication, transportation and learning chaos-free.

Entry requirements in Bolivian instutions is not at all critical. For admission, a student needs a Bachelor degree, recommendation letter, application, birth certificate and character certificate. For overseas people, the prospective student needs a police certificate, medical certificate and a student visa including with the above documents. If a student enters Bolivia with a tourist visa, he can convert the tourist visa into a student visa. Firstly he needs to do the registration process by the institution, Then he needs to apply for a Special Purpose Visa (Objeto determinado). Now a days, this special visa cannot be done while in Bolivia. For this visa, he has to quit from Bolivia to another neighbouring countriy. The easy locations are Argentina and Brazil. In those countries there are Bolivian consulates in the borders. It is very easy to go to the consulates by bus. The necessary visas can be obtained in the border town. Upon getting the special purpose visa, the student needs to come back to Bolivian Migracion. The information center provides a checklist. The student will require to obtain a domicile certificate, interpol certificate, medical vertificate, character certificate from local police in Bolivia. Then he will require to submit the file for one year residence visa in the migracion counter. Upon checking, he has to pay the fee Bs. 1350 for one year residence visa. Within a month the visa can be obtained if the documents are in order. It is better to handle the matters by an immigration advocate. The immigration advocates are available around the migracion office. Migracion offices are located almost all big cities in Bolivia.

Housing in Bolivia is very easy, comfortable, and cheap. The land lord rents one room or two rooms at the rate of Bs. 400 – 600 in a month. There is always water supply and electricity. Restauranrts are available at every corner of Bolivia. Besides, a student may cook in the house. All kinds of foods are available in Bolivia.

In Universities, the student has the free option to choose his subject from a crowd of subjects. There are IT related courses, medical, Dental, Engering, Tourism Theological courses. Some courses are taught both in Bolivia and abroad. In Bolivia he is bound to be satisfied with the high quality education system and with the easy life style.
